What’s On The GED Science Test?

The GED Science Test has 35 questions, of which you have to answer at least 65% of the questions correctly to pass the test. In other words, you are required to get at least 145 points on a 100-200 points scale to pass the Science section. You are allowed 90 minutes to complete the GED Science test and there is no break time during the test. 

The GED Science test consists of four main subject fields: Life Science (40%), Physical Science (Physics & Chemistry) (20%), Earth & Space Science (25%), and Science Practices (15%). 

GED Life Science

You will have to deal with Living Systems and Human Health on the Life Science portion of the GED Science test. Your knowledge about the safety and health of everything that lives on our planet will be tested in this portion. Space Science is about the universe we are living in. Earth which contains the Sun and nine planets is a part of a solar system.

GED Physics

GED physics and test strategies. The science that is revolving around studying energy, and in what way we can apply this energy to get things done is called Physics.

GED Chemistry

Chemistry studies the world of Matter and Energy. Chemistry also researches and explores structures of energy and matter, and in what way these two are interacting like Physics and Physical science. 

GED Space Science

Once you study for the Space Science portion of the GED Science test, you will be able to answer the questions such as “What is the speed of light in miles per second”, “Which science is dealing with outer space studies”, and “Which one is our solar system’s largest planet?”. 

In addition, because the Space Science portion contains many questions based on charts and graphs, you need to know how to read and understand charts and graphs as well.

GED Exam - Useful Facts

To be successful at the GED exam, you need to perform knowledge and skills which are equivalent to that of high school graduates. You are allowed to take four tests of the GED exam separately within the 2-year time frame, and the entire exam is computer-based. You need to score a minimum of 145 points on each subtest which is measured on a 100-200 points scale to pass the GED exam. 

If you get a score that is below 145 points, you will have two more attempts without a waiting period. However, if you have to retake the test for the third time, you must wait 60 days before you can retake it. Though you should still check with a prep or testing center because each state has different rules and regulations.

Social Studies, Maths, Science, and Language Arts are the four subjects of the GED exam. Once you pass the exam, you can obtain a credential equivalent to a high school diploma. Because you can take the exam within two years, you don’t need to study and prepare for all subtests at the same time. You can learn and take each subtest separately. Is the GED Science Test Hard?

It will be pretty hard for you to pass the GED Science if you don’t properly prepare for it. Therefore, make sure that you understand all the subjects matter including science (biology), physical science (including physics and chemistry), and Earth & Space science before taking the exam. Once you have studied these subjects and geared up for the exam, you will have no difficulty dealing with 90 minutes long GED subtests. 

What is the GED Science test passing score?

Like other subtests of the GED exam, you are required to get at least 145 points on a scale of 100 to 200 points to pass the GED Science test. Therefore, you must earn at least 580 points in total (for the four subtests), and averaging is not allowed.
